Canadians are no longer just buying electronics and clothing online – grocery shopping with home delivery has become popular as well. This can be proven by the increasing selection of online supermarkets and their growing reach.
In this article, we check out the buying conditions at major stores where you can buy, among other things, grocery products.
There are two different types of supermarkets which offer home delivery. The first type consists of supermarkets which have traditional, physical stores, but also offer their products in their online counterparts. Those are supermarkets such as Walmart, Metro, Real Canadian Superstore and No Frills.
The second type consists of stores, which offer their products only online, such as Voila.
Let’s take a closer look at the terms of delivery in Canadian supermarkets.
Walmart offers its delivery services in selected cities across Canada, with delivery fees depending on the time window chosen ($9.97 for same-day delivery, $12.97 for 2-hour delivery). Walmart does not offer free delivery on grocery orders. It is also worth noting that there is a minimum order value of $35.
Metro delivers throughout Quebec and Ontario. The standard delivery costs anywhere from $3.99 up to $5.99. Express delivery will cost you $11.99. There is also an additional assembly fee of $4 on all orders. Free delivery in Metro is limited-time-only and is not always available. The minimum order value is $50.
Real Canadian Superstore delivers to selected areas only. Delivery fees vary from $3.99 up to $9.99, depending on time window and order value. There is a minimum order value of $10. Real Canadian Superstore offers free delivery as a subscription-only service.
No Frills has the same terms as Real Canadian Superstore, with delivery costing $3.99 up to $9.99 depending on the time slot and order value. Free delivery is offered to subscribers only, and there is a minimum order value of $10.
Voila delivers in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, as well as the Greater Montreal Area and Quebec City. The minimum order value is $35 and delivery fees depend on the order size. Voila does not offer free delivery.
Real Canadian Superstore and No Frills offer the best delivery terms, with delivery costing anywhere between $3.99 and $9.99. It is also worth considering signing up for a subscription to gain free delivery, among other perks.
While you’re planning your grocery shopping online, it is worth considering using discount codes and cashback. In Picodi you will find discount codes for Walmart.
