The Picodi.com research team has checked which car brands enjoy the largest amount of interest among internet users in Europe.

In order to find which cars people want to buy or dream to drive, we have compared the statistics of Google searches for over 60 car brands: premium, middle class and economy.

Which car brands enjoy the largest amount of interest among internet users?

In Europe, it is BMW that enjoys the greatest interest. This German brand topped the list of the most popular car manufacturers in 15 countries across Europe, from the UK, through Germany, Austria and Hungary to the majority of the Balkan states (Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, and so on).

Mercedes-Benz took second place as the most popular among internet users in 10 countries. The brand’s biggest fan base can be found in Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Albania and in several Western European countries including: Portugal, Luxembourg and Belgium.

Toyota ranked highest in Poland. Additional members of this fan club included countries such as Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania and Latvia.

Both in 4th place, and just missing the podium, were Volkswagen and Tesla. The American electric car brand is a leader in Ireland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The German manufacturer is preferred by Spanish, Italian, Belarusian and Ukrainian residents.

Cars from the South Korean brand Hyundai reached the highest interest in three countries: Czechia, Slovakia and Iceland.

The two French brands Peugeot and Renault, as well as Swedish brand Volvo, are the last companies to reach the top in any country. Besides the French, it was the Danes who also showed their preference for Peugeot. Renault topped the list of the most frequently searched car brands in Turkey, and Volvo heads the Swedish chart.

Methodology and source of statistics

The research was based on a comparison of search queries of 64 car brands in 2017–2021. Historical data was obtained through Google Keyword Planner. The data for Andorra, Malta, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican were not available.
