Average wages: in which country people earn the most?

Picodi.com analysis team looked into earnings in countries around the world and created a global ranking of average wages.

We processed data from Numbeo, a website which surveys hundreds of thousands of citizens of various countries, asking them about the costs of living and actual earnings (after taxes).

Switzerland, where the average wage converted into rupees amounts to ₹449,000, tops the ranking. It is followed by Luxembourg and the United States, whose citizens earn ₹300,900 and ₹264,900 respectively. India, on the other hand, with the average wage of ₹32,800, placed 72nd, outranking countries such as Kazakhstan (₹32,700), Brazil (₹26,000), or Egypt (₹16,400). Cuba, Uganda and Nigeria, close the ranking with wages between ₹2,700 and ₹13,800.

When it comes to Asian countries, India ended up in the second part of the ranking (10th out of 16). It was outrun by countries such as South Korea (₹172,900), China (₹72,100), Malaysia (₹62,700), or Thailand (₹46,400). Following was Vietnam (₹30,200), Philippines (₹23,100), Indonesia (₹22,900), and Pakistan (₹15,700). The ultimate leaders are Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong — the only countries with average wages higher than ₹200,000.

The average wages after taxes come from the website numbeo.com. Local currencies were converted at the average Google Finance rate for August 2020.
