This time Desigual packed Barcelona´s spirit in its luggage to let it shine in the Big Apple the 10th of September with a project that revolves around Barcelona and the DNA of the brand. The idea was to revisit the origin of its roots and that’s basically how the new project has reinvented the brand’s essence. Desigual was first born in 1984. The father of Desigual is a Swiss entrepreneur Thomas Meyer who at the age of 20 decided to dress people in different way, in clothes that would help generate positive feelings, affordable to everyone. He launched Desigual with a denim jacket made from a patchwork of worn jeans. In the month of September 1985 Desigual presented its first collection with a wealth of prints and colours, the forerunner to that joyous vitality that has always been a mark of the brand.
The first store opened in Ibiza in 1986 and around the same time the label launched its logo, designed by Peret, which has been with them ever since. In 1991 the “Feel you sexy” collection was launched and proved its success. In the collection Desigual presented the first prints designed by Thomas Meyer. A year later Thomas Meyer and Manel Adell met. They sailed the ocean together with eleven others: a bond of friendship was established and ten years later Manel joined Desigual.
In 1998 Desigual launched its first website: Desigual 1.0. Some years passed and finally in 2004 for the Spring/Summer season Desigual presented its very first complete Kids Collection, successfully tackling the challenge of working in such a specific area as kids clothing.
Meyer’s brand continues its unparalleled growth since 2009.
In September 2014, Desigual celebrated its 30th birthday at New York fashion week with Adriana Lima gently walking the Lincoln Center catwalk.
