We compared the prices of basic food products in some of the most popular online supermarkets
Americans are no longer just buying electronics and clothing online – grocery shopping with home delivery has become popular as well. This can be proven by the increasing selection of online supermarkets and their growing reach.
In this article, we check out the buying conditions at major stores where you can buy, among other things, grocery products.
There are two different types of supermarkets which offer home delivery. The first type consists of supermarkets which have traditional, physical stores, but also offer their products in their online counterparts. Those are supermarkets such as Amazon, Walmart, Target, Kroger and Safeway.
The second type consists of stores, which offer their products only online.
Let’s take a closer look at the terms of delivery in American supermarkets.
Amazon delivers to addresses in California, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington and Washington D.C. The delivery fees vary from $3.95 for orders over $100 up to $9.95 for orders under $50. There is no minimum order value, and free delivery is offered only as a subscription service.
Walmart delivers across all of the US, with fees varying from $7.95 up to $9.95. There is no minimum order value and similarly to Amazon, free delivery is offered as a subscription-only service.
Just like Walmart, Target delivers across all of the US with a fee of $9.99. There is a $35 minimum order value. Target offers free delivery to its subscription users only.
Kroger delivers to all US addresses except for Alaska and Hawaii. Delivery costs start at $9.95 and go up to $11.95. There is no minimum order value and no free delivery available.
Safeway delivers to major US cities and suburbs. Delivery costs depend on the order. The minimum order value is $30. Safeway does not offer free delivery to its customers.
Walmart offers its delivery services across all of the US and the fees are some of the lowest from the stores considered. You might also want to try out their subscription, to gain access to free delivery, among other perks.
