Picodi.com analysis team checked prices of the most popular fruits in 98 countries and ranked places from the cheapest to the most expensive.

Are fruits in the US expensive?

Among 98 investigated countries, the United States placed 92nd when it comes to the price of apples—on average $4.62 for 1 kilogram. The most expensive are Puerto Rico ($6.25/kg), South Korea ($6.28/kg), and Japan ($6.88/kg). On the other side of the ranking are European countries like Poland ($0.75/kg), Turkey ($0.73/kg) and the cheapest country—Ukraine ($0.68/kg).

As for bananas, the United States placed 63rd with an average price of j$.159 for 1 kilogram. It is similar to Qatar where banana lovers would pay around $1.57 per kilogram, and Croatia—$1.60. The highest price was noted in South Korea with $3.69 for a kilogram of bananas.

When it comes to the price of oranges, the US placed 96th out of 98 with the average price of $4.11. The nation which can enjoy the cheapest oranges is Egyptians ($0.45/kg), while Japanese—again—would have to pay the biggest price ($5.43/kg)

For the currency conversion, we used the average Google Finance rates for May 2020. Compared to the previous year, the price increase for these 3 fruits ranges from 5 to 7%. The after-effects of the coronavirus pandemic may lead to a rapid price change.
